VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Beach Police are investigating a fatal crash.
The crash took place Saturday afternoon in the 3600 block of Charity Neck Road. The crash involved an SUV and motorcycle.
The road was closed for several hours as police investigated. According to the preliminary investigation, the SUV crashed into the motorcycle head on.
The driver of the motorcycle, 41-year-old Dennis Whitby was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV driver called the police and remained at the scene.
Whitby was a P.E. teacher at Greenbrier Middle School in Chesapeake.
"I am sad to share that one of our PE teachers, Mr. Dennis Whitby, passed away this weekend in a tragic motorcycle accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Whitby’s family during this difficult time and we offer condolences to all the Greenbrier Middle School students and staff members as we mourn this loss together," Greenbrier Middle principal Dr. Mustain said. "Many children may be affected by this news. Counselors will be available for the next few school days for any students or staff members who may need assistance. The fatal crash is still under investigation.
