VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The police union in Virginia Beach has donated gift cards to families in need for decades but this year they are adding to the list of those they are trying to help.

They are also collecting toys for kids with the help of Ynot Restaurants.

Brian Luciano is the Virginia Beach Police Benevolent Association President. He said, “One of the things that we thought was that it was probably the worst year possible to be a child this year with schools being shut down and not being able to see your friends and maybe parents being laid off because of lock downs and businesses being shut down and things like that.”

He said in years previous they gave social services about $1,500 dollars in gift cards which the agency distributes to those in need.

Luciano said they’ve added the toys to the list because many kids our suffering.

Donation boxes are at all three Ynot Restaurant locations and all four Virginia Beach Police precincts.

They’re collecting new unwrapped gifts for ages up to pre-teens until December 23.
