NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Virginia Living Museum's 5th Annual Otter Ball is going virtual this year!

The Otter Ball: A Virtual Conservation Event is underway as the Virginia Living Museum’s major fundraiser. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this year the event is moving online by asking people to create a fundraising page, bid in an online auction and participate in a Facebook Live event, a musical finale on Friday, June 5 from 6:30-8 p.m. The event is made possible thanks to presenting sponsor TowneBank.

There is an urgent need to support the daily care and feeding of more than 1,000 native mammals, birds, reptiles/amphibians and fishes at the museum. The Otter Ball will support the Emergency Animal Support Fund that was established at the onset of the COVID-19 crisis.

All you have to do is follow three easy steps:

Step 1:
Join the Virginia Living Museum and create an individual or team fundraising page and become an Ambassador for the mission. Log on here to join.

Step 2:
Bid high and often in an online auction that is now underway through June 5. Auction items include an opportunity to win a private experience with the Bobcat or the playful Otters, and other animal experiences/sponsorships with the Red Wolf, American Alligator and naming rights to a baby Bobcat. One-of-a-kind experiences are also on the auction block including a Museum Birthday Bash, Private VIP Behind-the-Scenes Tour and Cocktail Party and Mastodon Preservation Preparation & Tour. Log on here now to bid.

Step 3:
Mark your calendar and create your own Facebook Watch Party to celebrate during a Facebook Live Musical Finale, on Friday, June 5 from 6:30-8 p.m. with musical entertainment Good Shot Judy. Log on here.

The Otter Ball: A Virtual Conservation Event is presented by TowneBank. Additional sponsors include: Abbitt Realty, Ferguson, Harry and Judy Wason, Dr. Ashby Kilgore, Newport News Shipbuilding, W.M. Jordan, Riverside Health System, Casey Auto Group, Bowditch Ford, Inc., Robert Brown and Associates, Cell Phone Zone, Simple Soul Photography and Jeff's Flowers of Course.

The Facebook Live finale will feature staging and production by James River Audio Visual Services.
