Virginia reports 1,307 new coronavirus cases; Hampton Roads makes up 30% of daily case increase

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 99,189 total cases, 95,326 of which are confirmed and 3,863 are probable. There are 2,322 total coronavirus related deaths, with 2,211 being confirmed and 111 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 1,307, and deaths are up by 5 since Friday.

Hampton Roads and its surrounding cities reported 396 new cases, 8 hospitalizations and 2 deaths from Friday's report. Our viewing area made up 30.2% of Virginia's daily case update.

A total of 1,219,165 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Saturday, there are 896 people currently being hospitalized for confirmed coronavirus. There are 362 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,258 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 114 less hospitalizations from Friday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 8,281.

271 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

145 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 612 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,071 in the state - that's 20% usage.

12,843 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

  • Chesapeake 2,872 cases, 226 hospitalized, 37 deaths (+44 cases, +1 hospitalization from Friday)
  • Accomack 1,095 cases, 80 hospitalized, 16 deaths (+8, +1 hospitalization from Friday)
  • Northampton 296 cases, 48 hospitalized, 29 deaths (+1 case from Friday)
  • Hampton 1,210 cases, 50 hospitalized, 7 deaths (+37 cases, +1 hospitalization from Friday)
  • Norfolk 3,700 cases, 191 hospitalized, 30 deaths (+71 cases, +4 hospitalizations from Friday)
  • James City County 602 cases, 59 hospitalized, 16 deaths (+6 cases from Friday)
  • Newport News 1,816 cases, 80 hospitalized, 18 deaths (+28 cases from Friday)
  • Poquoson 43 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths (+0 cases from Friday)
  • Williamsburg 122 cases, 12 hospitalized, 6 deaths (+1 case from Friday)
  • York County 361 cases, 14 hospitalized, 4 deaths (+6 cases from Friday)
  • Portsmouth 1,758 cases, 133 hospitalized, 25 deaths (+32 cases from Friday)
  • Gloucester 156 cases, 13 hospitalized, 2 deaths (+4 cases from Friday)
