Virginia reports 859 new coronavirus cases on first day of Phase One, bringing state total to 28,672

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 28,672 total cases, 27,293 of which are confirmed and 1,379 are probable. There are 977 total coronavirus related deaths, with 944 being confirmed and 33 being probable. The case numbers are up by 859, and deaths are up by 22 since Thursday.

A total of 176,681 people in Virginia have now been tested.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Friday, there are 1,053 people currently being hospitalized for coronavirus. There are 458 people currently receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are pending. 362 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

195 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 624 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 2,953 in the state - that's 21% usage.

3,805 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

  • Norfolk 349 cases, 56 hospitalized, 5 deaths
  • James City County 179 cases, 53 hospitalized, 15 deaths
  • Newport News 184 cases, 38 hospitalized, 10 deaths
  • Poquoson 7 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths
  • Williamsburg 42 cases, 9 hospitalized, 3 deaths
  • York County 62 cases, 9 hospitalized, 3 deaths
  • Portsmouth 219 cases, 39 hospitalized, 10 deaths
  • Gloucester 28 cases, 7 hospitalized, 1 death
  • Virginia Beach 535 cases, 86 hospitalized, 19 deaths
