NORFOLK, Va. - The Virginia State Police are investigating after a single-vehicle crash on I-64 W left a man dead Saturday morning.

Police said a crash happened on the interstate west of Norview Avenue and blocked all westbound lanes of traffic. Shortly after, at approximately 6:34 AM, a driver traveling westbound at a high rate of speed swerved to avoid the crash ahead.

The driver, Reginald L. Kelly, lost control of the vehicle and spun out across all lanes of travel, which caused the vehicle to flip on its side, coming to rest on top of a tree on the right shoulder.

Kelly suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Kelly, 28, was not wearing his safety belt and alcohol was a contributing factor.

Notification has been made to family members.
