Virginia State Police seek information on driver after fatal I-64 crash

HAMPTON, Va. - The Virginia State Police was on the scene of a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier was speeding, when the driver lost control, ran off the roadway and struck several trees.

The female front seat passenger, 25-year-old Sha'lynn Da' nyce Walker, was not wearing her seat belt and died from injuries sustained by the crash, VSP said. Vidal Mclaughlin was an occupant in the vehicle and also suffered injuries in the crash.

According to Mclaughin, the unknown driver fled the scene of the accident. Mclaughin was transported to Riverside Regional Hospital, VSP said.

The Virginia State Police crash reconstruction team assisted in the investigation.

State Police is seeking the public's assistance in seeking anyone with information or who witnessed the vehicle traveling on Interstate 64 that morning, or witnessed the driver fleeing the scene.

This accident remains under investigation.
