VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A Virginia Wesleyan professor has resigned after posting controversial political statements about President-elect Joe Biden on social media.

Business professor and dean Paul Ewell wrote that anyone who chose Biden for president is “ignorant, anti-American and anti-Christian." He asked people who voted for Democrat Joe Biden to unfriend him, causing an uproar.

The university issued a statement regarding Ewell's resignation.

"Last week, Dr. Paul Ewell resigned as Dean of Virginia Wesleyan University Global Campus. Today, the University accepted his resignation as Professor of Management, Business and Economics," university officials said.

University spokeswoman Stephanie Smaglo told AP the school does not comment on personnel matters, but it is addressing the situation internally.

President Donald Trump responded to the news with a retweet, captioned "Progress!"

The post has since been deleted, however a screenshot of the post can be seen below:

People have responded by posting dozens of comments on the university’s Facebook page calling Ewell's message unacceptable and embarrassing.
