VSP trooper crashes vehicle after avoiding intoxicated pedestrian in Accomack County

ACCOMACK Co., Va. - A pedestrian has been charged with being intoxicated in public after a state trooper crashed his work vehicle trying to avoid hitting them.

On Tuesday, around 9:36 p.m., troopers with the Virginia State Police were responding to a crash scene of a vehicle in a ditch on Route 13.

A trooper responding to the scene said that he observed and encountered a male pedestrian standing in the road.

In an attempt to avoid injuring the pedestrian, the trooper stated that he swerved off the roadway and struck an embankment.

The trooper did not suffer any injuries as a result of the accident.

Reports have confirmed that Louis Ewell, 66, was taken to Accomack County jail where he was charged with being intoxicated in public.
