NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Newport News Police Department is searching for a wanted suspect who is accused of trying to ram into a police unit after a chase Thursday afternoon.

Around 2:42 p.m., patrol officers in the area of 28th Street and Washington Avenue tried to initiate a traffic stop on a wanted fugitive in a dark blue Charger. The driver failed to yield and continued driving south on Washington.

After a short chase, officers discontinued the pursuit due to heavy traffic. They later found the suspect vehicle at a dead-end street near 34th Street.

The driver then tried to ram a police unit before fleeing in his vehicle northbound. Officers resumed the chase.

The suspect hit an HRT bus at 35th Street and Washington Avenue and kept driving, hitting two other vehicles at 34th and Washington.

The driver then crashed at 25th Street and Jefferson Avenue. Both the driver and a passenger that was in the suspect vehicle fled on foot.

No one was injured during this incident, police say.

While officers have not caught the suspect, they have identified him as Javon King.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are pending.
