VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A woman has died after being hit by a vehicle in the 500 block of Birdneck Road Friday night.
Dispatchers received a call for a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle in the area around 7:30 p.m.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a vehicle that was traveling southbound on Birdneck Road.
A witness to the crash began giving life-saving efforts to the woman, and first responders took over when they arrived on scene. The woman succumbed to her injuries, and Emergency Medical Services personnel pronounced her dead on scene.
Traffic will remain shut down for both northbound and southbound travel between Old Virginia Beach Road and 24th Street while police investigate the crash.
This incident is being actively investigated by the Virginia Beach Police Department's Fatal Crash Team (FACT).
