Woman killed in Triple Decker Bridge crash after sliding off road into oncoming traffic

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Traffic was shut down Monday afternoon on the Triple Decker Bridge due to a fatal crash.

The closure was in the 2600 block of S. Military Highway on the Triple Decker Bridge. Traffic was closed both directions as of 1:45 p.m.

Police said around 12:15 p.m., Chesapeake Police responded to the Triple Decker Bridge for a report of a serious crash.

Investigators said a Sedan with an adult female driver was heading westbound towards Deep Creek when she lost control and ran off the right side of the road. The driver of the sedan then over corrected, causing her car to slide sideways into oncoming traffic.

Police said a man, driving a pickup truck, was heading eastbound as the sedan slid into oncoming traffic. He struck the sedan and the woman driver of the sedan was killed at the scene.

The pickup driver was injured and taken to a local hospital.

The woman has been identified as 32-year-old Lauren Kimberly Simbra from Portsmouth.

The incident is currently under investigation.
