HAMPTON ROADS, Va. — The Mayflower Marathon Food Drive took place this weekend and collected 730,000 meals (and counting).

Donations were made at the FM99 & 106.9 The Fox 26th Annual Mayflower Marathon Food Drive presented by Bud’s Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning, and Electric.

The drive took place this past weekend at Pembroke Square in Virginia Beach and Kroger in North Suffolk. On the peninsula, donations were collected at Kroger at Coliseum Central in Hampton and Kroger in Tabb.

All food and monetary donations collected in Virginia Beach and Suffolk went to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. All donations made at the Hampton and Tabb locations went to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.

Virginia food banks have an entire list of things they need like frozen turkeys or hams, instant potatoes, peanut butter, canned veggies and other items like shampoo, diapers and deodorant.

"We are beyond grateful to FM99 and 106.9 The Fox for all they do to make this event possible. This is such an impactful time for people struggling with food insecurity. And by the response, it’s clear that there are a great many compassionate folks out there who sense that need," said Christopher Tan, President and CEO of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. "They can feel good about their donations knowing that all the food collected will be on their neighbors’ tables by Thanksgiving.”

Donations can still be made online.
