NORFOLK, Va. (NSUSpartans.com) – A pair of former Spartans will continue their basketball careers in Germany once again this season. Former men’s players Anell Alexis and Edward Seward will compete with the same teams that they did last year as the German basketball leagues have gotten their seasons going.

Alexis will spend his second straight year with EN Basketball Schwelm of the ProB league after averaging 12.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game last year. Seward, meanwhile, will enter his third year in a row with Cuxhaven Baskets of the second Regionalliga division in Germany.

After spending one season with the Spartans as a graduate transfer in 2013-14, Alexis has gone on to compete in both Panama and Germany since then. As a guard/forward, he made 15 starts in his lone season with the Spartans, averaging 7.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. A transfer from Marist, he helped NSU finish 11-5 in the MEAC that year and 19-15 overall.

Seward is NSU’s longest-tenured player still competing professionally after he finished his NSU career in 2002. Listed as a 6-9 center during his two seasons with the Spartans, he averaged 4.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game during his last year in 2001-02 while leading the team with 25 blocks.

The duo will join three other former Spartans who will compete overseas this year. Jermaine Bishop and Pendarvis Williams inked contracts with teams in Germany and Italy, respectively, over the summer, while Derrik Jamerson Jr. recently signed with a team in Argentina. Altogether, a total of 15 former NSU players played professionally at some point during the 2019-20 season.
