NORFOLK, Va. - On Friday, former Norfolk State University basketball standout Steven Whitley raised more than three thousand dollars for the community.

The Norfolk native teamed up with the Tidewater Connection Alumni Association to host the $7 for 757 Fundraiser. From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. he collected donations, with one hundred percent of the proceeds going toward the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, and the Maryland Food Bank – Eastern Shore.

"Remember the community needs us and we can't make a difference on a national scale unless we take care of our backyard," Whitley said. "Join me and we'll make a difference together in our community."

Whitley graduated from Norfolk's Booker T. Washington High School in 2014 before spending a year at the Fork Union Military Academy. He went on to play for Robert Morris his freshman season before transferring back home to Norfolk State, where he was a captain of the Spartan men's hoops team.
