BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (HamptonPirates.com) – A 10-0 run early in the second half by homestanding Gardner-Webb proved to be too much to overcome in a 81-67 Hampton loss to the Runnin’ Bulldogs on Monday night.
This was the conclusion of a January 20 contest that was suspended at halftime due to malfunctioning shot clocks.
Hampton (13-16, 8-8) used a Davion Warren jumper to get the margin back to 43-35 at the 18:33 mark before going scoreless over the next 3:33 when a jumper by Eric Jamison, Jr. jumper put the hosts up 53-35.
The Pirates cut the lead to as close as 13 points twice in the second half, the last being just under 11 minutes left on a Ben Stanley jumper to trail 55-42.
Stanley was the leading scorer for Hampton with 20 points, while Jermaine Marrow added 17 and eight assists and Warren chipped in with 12 and six rebounds.
Hampton now plays its last two games at home starting on Thursday night with a 7pm tip against league-leading Radford.
