Hampton men's, women's hoops lead all of HBCU basketball in attendance

HAMPTON, Va. (HamptonPirates.com) - Following in the footsteps of the women's basketball team who lead all of HBCU basketball in attendance this past season, it was announced today that the Hampton men's basketball team also topped HBCU hoops in attendance according to figures released by the NCAA.

The Pirates averaged 3,764 fans for their 16 home dates in the 2019-20 season highlighted by over 7,100 in attendance for the Battle of the Bay with Norfolk State. over 4,500 fans attended the matchup with Howard, while games against Presbyterian and USC Upstate brought in over 4,000 apiece.

Southern University was second among HBCU schools averaging 3,489, while Tennessee State joined them averaging over 3,200.

The Hampton Lady Pirates basketball team topped all of HBCU basketball in attendance averaging 2,871 per game for the 2019-20 season in numbers released by the NCAA.

For its 13 home games, Hampton had a cumulative attendance of 37,318 for an average that not only topped all of HBCU basketball, but was 45th nationally.

Southern University was the other HBCU that averaged over 2,000 fans per game last season coming in just under 2,500 per contest.
