CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (VirginiaSports.com) – Virginia linebacker Charles Snowden has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Linebacker of the Week for games played through Oct. 31. It is Snowden’s first weekly honor of the season and third of his career.

Snowden (Sr., OLB, Silver Spring, Md.) had a career-high four sacks and a forced fumble that led to a touchdown in UVA’s 44-41 victory against then-No. 15 North Carolina at Scott Stadium. His sack total was the most by a UVA player since Jamie Sharper had four against the Tar Heels in 1996. It is also the most sacks by any player this year in FBS.

Snowden had a total of 10 tackles for UVA and came up with a crucial play in the third quarter when he strip-sacked UNC QB Sam Howell. The Cavaliers recovered and scored five plays later to increase their lead to 41-20. Snowden is just the second ACC player to record four sacks in a game over the past two ACC seasons. Greg Rosseau (Miami vs. FSU) was the only player to record that total last season. He is just the 11th ACC player since 2000 to record 4+ sacks in a game.

Over his last two games, Snowden has 18 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. UVA’s five total sacks vs. UNC was the most given up by the Tar Heels this season.
