Man charged after early morning Chesapeake shooting sends man to hospital

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - A man is in the hospital after being injured in an early Monday morning shooting.

Around 2:47 a.m., Chesapeake Police responded to several calls reporting gunfire in the 1700 block of Acorn St.

Reports say that a man suffering from gun shot wounds was located at the scene. The man was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Chesapeake Police have charged 21-year-old Aarion Powell, of Portsmouth, with felony charges of aggravated malicious wounding, use of firearm in the commission of a felony, eluding police, carrying a concealed weapon, and a misdemeanor charge of obstruction to justice.

Police say the incident is still under investigation and more criminal charges could be pending.
