NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Reports say a woman was shot while sitting in her car early Friday morning.
Around 1:30 a.m., officials received a call that a woman had been brought in to a local hospital due to being shot. She was transported by another person and not by medics, reports say.
It was also reported that the driver and the victim were in the 500 block of Bellwood Road when a 'loud pop' was heard. The driver explained to officials that he then realized the victim had been shot and immediately drover her to a local hospital.
The victim was identified as a 50-year-old Newport News woman. Once at the hospital, she was immediately taken back for further treatment and is now listed in stable condition, police say.
The circumstances surrounding this shooting remains an ongoing investigation.
