Man arrested after woman seriously injured in Hampton shooting

HAMPTON, Va. - Police are investigating after a woman was left with life-threatening injuries following a shooting on Friday.

Around 12:01 a.m., officials received a call in reference to a shooting that had just occurred in the first block of Franktown Road.

Officers say they located a woman at the scene who had been struck by gunfire. She was transported to a local hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries, reports say.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim was shot by a known individual while at a residence in the area.

Andrew Malik Wells, a 26-year-old North Carolina man, has been arrested in reference to this incident. He has been charged with one count of maiming, one count of using a firearm in commission of a felony and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Wells remains in custody at the Hampton city jail. There is no mugshot available at this time.
