This weekend, traffic will be interrupted at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel/I-64 as VDOT tests the bridge's tide gates.
These routine tests are to ensure the HRBT is prepared for extreme weather situations.
Both directions will be detoured for one-hour blocks, overnight Saturday into Sunday.
Here is the schedule:
Eastbound 2 a.m. to 3 a.m
Westbound 3 a.m. to 4 a.m
Your best alternate is I-664/Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel. Allow extra time for the detour.
Early Sunday, Dec 6, #HRBT / 64 will be closed, as VDOT tests the tide gates. This ensures HRBT is prepared for extreme weather.
