For the first time, NewsChannel 3's cameras were given access to the crash site in Virginia Beach. We saw the courtyard where the FA-18 jet crashed Friday afternoon.
The extent of the damage to some apartments are visible, while others seemed untouched.
Thursday was also the first time those living in the Mayfair Mews Apartments in Virginia Beach were allowed back to their homes, to see if they can salvage any of their belongings.
Linda Denney, who lived in one of the damaged buildings says, "It was like a brick off my shoulders. I can get closure and I can get my stuff."
Others walked away with boxes and bags full of clothes, medical supplies, and pets.
"A lot of people have nothing left and they're elderly so you have to feel for them," said resident Jeanine Bandy.
