A Virginia Beach shopping center is taking action to honor a murdered police detective.
The Green Run Square Shopping Center dedicated a memorial Wednesday afternoon.
Detective Mike Phillips was shot to death in a parking space there in 2008 and ever since then, teddy bears, crosses, flowers, and small items have sat in a parking space in remembrance of the fallen officer.
When contractors began repaving the parking lot in the spring, they decided to turn the parking space into a permanent memorial.
Today's memorial was held on a special day for detective Phillips’ family. His son turned 11-years-old.
Everyone at the memorial sang to him.
