Phoenix, AZ (ABC15.com) – An 8-week-old puppy rescued from a sticky situation after getting caught in a cactus near 7th Avenue and Dobbins Road last week has a new home.

The Arizona Humane Society said someone found the puppy after hearing him crying.

The Good Samaritan rescued the puppy and removed nearly a five pound bucket of spines that were stuck in the dog.

The rest of the spines were removed at the AHS Second Chance Animal Hospital™ where officials say he wagged his tail the whole time.

Vets checked for any damage to his eyes and also prescribed medication to make sure the wounds don’t become infected

A drawing was held to adopt Cactus Jack Thursday morning where Sara Messerschmidt was chosen as his new mom. Messerschmidt said she had just moved to Phoenix from Colorado in February.
