You don’t have to know a Navy SEAL to feel proud of Virginia Beach’s own SEAL Team 6.
One year ago today, SEAL Team 6 took out Osama Bin Laden in a compound in Pakistan.
Mike Bellomy who lives in Virginia Beach says,” It means a lot considering that he's the reason we had a lot of SEALs and military members die.”
Today, the community of Virginia Beach is still talking about the team’s accomplishment. Not just because of what they did, but also because of where they came from.
John Koy, who was born and raised in Virginia Beach, says, “When I heard they were stationed out here, I jumped for joy. I was excited. I've probably come across someone from SEAL Team 6 and didn't even know it."
Residents also felt this bond when several local SEALS were killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan months later.
“It doesn't matter where you look, someone has a connection to the military whether it's a family member or if you know someone in the military,” says Koy.
This is a reminder that Navy SEALS are more than just trained warriors, they’re also a big part of the community that makes up Virginia Beach.
