The race for the White House made a stop in Hampton Roads today.  Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney rallied a crowd at Crofton Industries in Portsmouth.

Representative Michele Bachmann made a big announcement saying, "My endorsement to Mitt Romney as our President to take the country back."

NewsChannel 3 was also hoping to get the exclusive on another announcement involving Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell. Reporter Juliet Bickford had a sit down interview with Romney and McDonnell.

She asked, "Is this going to be your running mate?

Romney replied, "No comment on the Vice-President selection process."

Despite Juliet's questions, Romney and McDonnell would not talk about whether they would be together on the November ballot.  But they were eager to talk about Romney's plans for the country.

Romney discussed a three-part plan to help the economy which includes getting rid of the current health care reform, having energy policies to take advantage of our country's resources, and  he plans to stop the massive deficit spending.

Governor McDonnell says promises like that will allow Romney to win Virginia in the election.

Saying, "This is a right-of-center state.  Independent voters will dominate. They tell me they're worried about whether they can get a good job."

Democratic State Senator L. Louise Lucas is skeptical.

"Do you think we can trust what he says about his views?  That's the first question," says Lucas.

She rallied a small group to speak out against Romney.

Juliet also asked Romney about his plans for the military.

He replied, "I am very concerned about President Obama's cuts to our military budget.  I think he's making an enormous mistake to say we are gonna go from the capacity to fight two wars to one war.  The reason for that is not because I want to fight a lot of wars, but because I want to prevent war.  A very strong American military is the best ally peace has ever known.  I would continue to invest in the military. I would create more active duty personnel, I'd like to take our shipbuilding from 9 a year up to 15.  I'd like to add additional aircraft to the Air Force.  Our equipment is old and has been shot up. We need to modernize it and get it into the 21st century. Cutting back on our military at a time when the world is as dangerous as it is, is the wrong course by President Obama."

Supporters at the rally liked the message Romney was sending.

Gina Lane of Virginia Beach said, "I'm so excited we have someone who has given us some hope.  Something to look forward to instead of feeling like we're spinning our wheels and going backwards."
