Angry citizens flooded the city council meeting on Tuesday night to speak out against raising taxes.

Speakers begged council to approve a different budget that would not increase taxes at all.

In an 8-3 vote, council members voted to approve the budget proposed by Mayor Will Sessoms.

He pointed out that while the alternative did not propose a tax increase, next year things could be even worse.

They say that the money collected from the tax increase will almost entirely cover funding for the schools and  it will allow for a 2% raise for teachers.
