A shoot out in a Suffolk community early Sunday sent bullets flying into homes and shattered car windows.
"It was chaos; so much glass and stuff, windows busted out," said Deirdre Saunders.
Her car was one of three hit by the bullets around 3:30 a.m. in an apartment complex on Cogic Square.
Police say it appears that two groups of people were firing at each other.
"It sounded like Iraq, sounded like World War III," said James Boddie.
Some apartments were also hit in the crossfire. At one home, a bullet went through the window and hit a wall inside.
"Her kids normally sleep downstairs," said Saunders, "thankfully they were all upstairs because somebody could have got hit."
Fortunately, police say no one was hurt.
Saunders says that although this is the worst she's seen it, people who don't live in the area are constantly causing problems.
"It's not our community that's doing this; it's the outsiders that's bringing the drama into our community, that's messing us up," said Saunders.
She says she and others have repeatedly brought concerns, like poor lighting, to the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority which oversees the property.
She says so far, she hasn't seen any improvements.
"I guess until somebody actually is dead on the street, that's when somebody is actually going to come out here and see what's going on," said Saunders.
News Channel 3 is waiting to hear back from the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority about the residents' concerns.
As for the shoot out on Sunday, police say they do not have any suspects.
