Beryl is moving inland along the Georgia/Florida line as a strong tropical storm with sustained winds of 70 mph and gusts to 86. The center of the storm is expected to make landfall within the next few hours. Earlier this afternoon, Beryl was upgraded to a full-fledged tropical storm and intensified even more. This morning Hurricane Hunters found that Beryl got better organized overnight. Beryl is moving slowly W at 7 mph and is currently about 35 miles E of Jacksonville, FL.
Beryl is expected to quickly diminish to a tropical depression after landfall. An approaching cold front is expected to force the storm to hit the brakes, make a u-turn and head back out to sea in South Carolina. The storm may then re-intensify into a tropical storm as it lashes the Carolina coast Wednesday. Stay tuned.
