North Carolina pastor’s anti-gay sermon causes protests

Posted

Protests this Sunday outside a North Carolina church. It’s over an anti-gay sermon one pastor gave there earlier this month.
The sermon went viral outraging people all over the country.
“It`s a choice..a perverted choice.” Said Robbie Center.
“Equality and justice for everyone.” Said Jade Bienvenu.

There are opinions among these people that divide them as clearly as the sides of the street their standing on.

“I saw that he was promoting putting people in what I consider a concentration camp and I thought to myself didn’t people learn from the last World War how horrible this is?” Said protester Lisa Dickinson.

“Even when we voice our disagreement of their lifestyle can be confused as hate. We are here to warn people.”

The protest, the support, it`s all a reaction to what started here behind the pulpit at Providence Road Baptist Church in Madien.

And it`s the reason for all the police presence.

On the inside you might not know that the words of Pastor Whorley angered anyone. If anything this congregation seemed re-energized.

Speaking for the pulpit Whorley thanked his supporters, saying quote ‘I thought I was in this alone.’

“The way he worded things I don`t agree with that part, but his basic message behind it is right: God`s word.”

“The rhetoric that he is preaching in the church where he has a captive audience, it`s not right, you don`t treat people like that.”

But in the pulpit or the streets it`s the back and forth.

“If you are doing those things you have to stop or you’re not going to inherit the kingdom of God.”

That let`s you know the fight.

“I think it`s God`s choice.”
Pastor Whorley says he has been preaching for 53 years now.
And even though he has received death threats recently he says he quote “can’t turn back now.”
From either side it’s far from over.
