Suspect arrested in Hampton Carnival shooting

Ryan Daveon Steward, an 18-year-old Newport News man, has been charged with one count of attempted maiming and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, after police say he was involved in a shooting at a Hampton carnival.

Police say the shooting occurred on May 27th at a carnival in the Hampton Coliseum parking lot.

Police say they were closing the carnival when they heard multiple gunshots in the area.

During an investigation, they discovered that two people got into a fight when the shots were fired. No one was struck during the shooting police say. 

The suspect is now in custody in the Hampton City Jail.
