According to Newport News police, a 15-year-old, eighth grade student at Hines Middle School has been charged with possession of a firearm and placed in juvenile detention after police say a loaded Glock handgun was recovered in the bushes at a bus stop.
Police say they were told the student had gotten on a school bus, but the bus had already unloaded the other students at the school. With the help of school security, police found the 15-year-old and arrested him.
The student then told police that he found the gun and brought it to the bus stop. He said he got nervous and disposed of the gun in the bushes.
