Mr. Carter matched the first six numbers in the June 9 Win for Life drawing to win $1,000 per week for the rest of his life.

He bought the winning ticket at Rennies onWest Mercury Boulevard in Hampton.

On June 13, he returned to the store to receive the first in a lifetime of checks from Virginia Lottery officials. The store received $10,000 from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

The winning numbers for that drawing were 13-22-26-30-31-42 and the Free Ball number was 20. He selected the numbers on ticket using family birthdays.

How does it feel to win?

“It feels great,” he said. “It gives me a little spring in my step!”
