Suffolk police have charged 22-year-old Michael Goodman after they say he accidentally shot his three-year-old son during a dispute with the baby's mother in the 900 block of White Marsh Road this morning.

Police say they found a gun in the vehicle the suspect used to drive to the scene where the shooting occurred.

"As soon as I came outside, he was waking outside to his car and the other young man was coming downstairs with the little boy in his hand like 'you shot your son man!' and the mother was crying," says Kenneth Copeland, a witness.

Goodman has been charged with Shoot, Cut or Stab Malicious Wounding, Attempted Malicious Wounding, 2 counts of Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony, Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling, and 2 counts of Child Endangerment.

The three-year-old is now listed in stable condition. He is being held for observation with non-life threatening injuries.
