According to Southampton County police officials, police have charged two 14-year-olds with animal cruelty for disembowling a kitten.

Police say it happened on June 9 at Southampton Meadows Mobile Home Park. Police took a small, black-handled knife away from one of the teens.

The cat belonged to the Hoggard family in Southampton County.

Police were notified by the kitten’s owners; the responding deputies tried to help the kitten, but the kitten’s injuries were too severe.

The kitten did not survive. The idenities of the 14-year-olds will not be released due to their ages.
