Here is information provided in a release from VDOT:

PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will conduct routine tide gate testing at the Route 58 Midtown Tunnel on Sunday, June 24, from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. VDOT tests the Midtown Tunnel and the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel tide gates every six months. Maintenance operations for both tunnels consist of successfully cycling the associated tide gates and roadway drain valves. Upon completion of all associated systems tests, traffic will be released, both east and west bound.

VDOT suggests that motorists use the I-264 Downtown Tunnel or the I-64 High Rise Bridge during the testing.

Motorists could also experience delays throughout the week at the Midtown Tunnel for maintenance/inspection and construction activities:

Route 58 East/West – Monday, June 18, through Thursday, June 21, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Shoulder Closure Gantry Installation: Route 58 East/West – Thursday, June 21, through Friday, June 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
