Applications for the Norfolk Cooling Assistance Program are being accepted now through August 15.
According to the city of Norfolk, families who need help with their cooling costs this summer may apply for the Cooling Assistance Program through Friday, August 15.
Applications are available at any Norfolk Department of Human Services location, online, or by calling 664-6035.

Cooling Assistance is available to Norfolk residents who are responsible for cooling expenses and have a monthly gross income that meets eligibility guidelines. For example, monthly gross income must be at or below $1,265 for a single-person household; monthly income may not exceed $2,584 for a family of four.
Households must include one child under age six, a disabled individual, or a vulnerable adult who is age 60 or over.
Cooling Assistance may help cover one, or more, of the following expenses:
- electric bills to operate cooling equipment
- an electric utility security deposit
- repairs to a central air conditioning system or heat pump
- purchase or replacement and installation of an air conditioner
