Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man is in critical condition after being struck by a car on Jefferson Avenue Saturday night.
According to witnesses, a 63-year-old man was crossing Jefferson Ave. from the median just north of Dresden Drive at about 10:25 P.M when he ran into the path of an oncoming vehicle heading northbound in the center travel lane.
An independent witness indicated the man was crossing the roadway and seemed to stop as the traffic approached.
he 28-year-old driver of a Nissan Altima was not injured. Police say alcohol was not a factor in his operation of his vehicle.
The victim was transported to a local area hospital in critical condition. A severe weather alert in effect at the time of the crash does not appear to be a factor. There are currently no charges pending.
