Today, 300 men and women left Naval Station Norfolk on the USS Forrest Sherman.
The sailors will be gone for seven months to the Mediterranean and Arabian seas.
The ship's commander says his crew has been training for months in maritime security operations to prepare in case they come across any pirates.
