Marina Del Rey, CA (KTLA) — An 800-pound shark was killed about 15 miles off the Southern California coast Monday.

The giant shark was taken to Marina Del Rey Landing, where it took several men to lift it out of the water, the Marina Del Rey Patch reported.

“It’s been at least a couple of years since I’ve seen anything that big,” said Tony Velardez, assistant manager at Del Rey Landing. “Our scales only go up to 750 pounds.”

The shark was most likely a shortfin mako, according Jose Bacallao, operations manager at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, who viewed pictures of the shark.
