Update: Man wanted for armed robbery and assault in Newport News now in custody

Newport News police say Keondre Williams is in custody after surrendering himself at Police Headquarters. He was wanted for a robbery and assault that happened over the weekend.

Police say on Sunday night, July 1, 2012, at about 11:30 p.m., a 34-year-old Newport News man was walking in the 1200 block of 26th Street when he was approached from behind by six unknown black males.

According to the release, the victim was physically assaulted by one of the men and his cell phone was taken. Several gunshots were then fired.

The victim received a non life-threatening gunshot wound to his head. The offenders ran away from the scene.
