Beach police say they have charged 54-year-old Pedro Juan Nunez, of the 3400 block of Kings Grant Road, with attempted grand larceny and two counts of precious metal violations after a woman reported to police that she was a victim of fraud.

Police say on April 22nd, they received information about the possible fraud.

They say the victim reported that her diamond ring was taken from her home in the 2300 block of Great Neck Circle by someone she knew. She found out that her ring had been sold to Nunez at Nunez Fine Jewelers located at 737 First Colonial Road.

She says she confronted Nunez about the ring and he agreed to return the jewelry but wanted his money back.

Police say she then went to the store where she originally bought the ring and found out that the diamond had been removed and replaced with a lesser value diamond.

The victim went back and confronted Nunez again and he agreed to return the original diamond. The victim then contacted police about the incident.

Police say Nunez did not report the transaction and failed to obtain identification which is required by law.

Nunez has now been released on bond.

Police are attempting to identify individuals who believe they are a victim of a similar incident involving Nunez Fine Jewelers.  If so, please contact the Detective Bureau Pawn Unit at 385-8391.
