Portsmouth, Va. – A man who was stabbed trying to break up a fight several weeks ago has died from his wounds, Portsmouth police say.
The stabbing happened on the evening of June 16 in the 1100 block of Virginia Avenue when 24-year-old Kelvin Jones tried to break up a fight between two women.
Before the Jones could separate the women, several other men, including juveniles, began assaulting him. During the assault, Jones was stabbed in the upper chest area.
Jones was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital shortly after the incident.
On Monday he returned to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with complications from his wound and died as a result of that injury while at the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
