Flashback: The search for Godzilla in Chesapeake

In July of 1998, a pet lizard named Godzilla made headlines for weeks.

Search crews including the Chesapeake SWAT Team and a plane donated by Chesapeake General Hospital searched the Deep Creek Section of the city for days after the 8-foot lizard escaped from his cage.

They found paw prints and signs the lizard was lurking but couldn't find him.

Then weeks later in August, he turned up in a tree.

Firefighters roped him in as people gathered on the ground to watch.

The lizard ended up moving to a zoo in Florida.
