According to Virginia Beach city officials, Virginia Beach Public Works Mosquito Control Biology Lab has recently seen an unusually high number of positive tests for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE).

Officials say there have been nine positive tests in two weeks, and there are usually only about six positive tests for an entire summer season.

Positive tests results are from Blackwater, Indian River Road near Elbow Road, and West Neck Road in Pungo.

Though EEE is rare in humans, conditions are favorable for it to become a problem this year. As a result, Mosquito Control has increased spraying in the listed areas.
