Australia has rejected the idea of having a U.S carrier strike group based on their coasts.

A Pentagon report has called for beefing up the fleet in the Pacific by 2020.

Part of the plan moving forward was to shift an aircraft carrier from the east coast to an Australian naval base.

Today, Australian Defense Minister Stephen Smith said that although negotiations were underway to increase U.S. Navy access to Australia’s Indian Ocean base, it would never become a U.S. Military base.
