Virginia Beach, Va.–Beach police say they are searching for suspects who have been accused of stealing over 200 pounds of X-ray film from Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital located at 1060 First Colonial Road.

They say the two unknown suspects entered the hospital  at 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 1 in an attempt to get X-ray films. They were denied by security staff because they did not have proper ID. Police say the suspects later re-entered the hospital and approached an employee who was working in radiology.

They told the employee that they needed to pick up X-ray films and they were then directed to the film room. Police say the two stole over 200 pounds of film from the hospital.

Investigators say this is actually a growing problem nationwide and in Canada.

They say suspects who steal the film extract the silver and then it is sold.

Police say the suspects are described as a Hispanic male and a white male and appeared to have some knowledge of hospitals.

They are driving what appears to be an old yellow Penske moving truck.
