On Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at about 2:00 p.m., police responded to Jefferson Avenue in reference to reports of a woman who made threats to bomb the city of Newport News Pier.
The complainant and Community Service Board worker made contact and attempted to assist the woman, when police say she became belligerent and threatened to obtain C4 explosives to blow up the Newport News City pier.
According to officials, Newport News police had come in contact with the woman, Julie Ireland, earlier that day. Responding officers had an encounter with her at 7:45 a.m., and had summoned her for trespassing and littering on the posted private portion of pier property. She then left the property, they say.
The officers found 47-year-old Julie Ireland of the 400 block of Cher Road in Newbern N.C., in the middle of King Lincoln Park shortly after 2:00 p.m. on August 8. Police say she was sleeping. The complainant positively identified Ireland as the person who made the threats to blow up the pier with C4 explosives.
