The buttery popcorn most of us love at the theater may trigger Alzheimer’s disease.

At least that's what a new study says.

The study's authors say the flavorant, diacetyl, can stop the brain's natural mechanisms of clearing the disease.

But it's not just Alzheimer’s they say you should be worried about.

According to researchers, the buttery flavorant is also linked to lung damage in microwave popcorn factory workers.

To date, the effects have only been seen in test-tube studies.
